| Birds of Paradise, Maui, Hawaii | ||
| The Bird of Paradise was introduced to the Hawaiian islands from South Africa and is now one of the many invaders which are replacing local species. Alien and invasive plants are one of the largest threats to local Hawaiian plant and bird species, many of which are already extinct or rapidly becoming so. Seventy five percent of our nations' extinct species are from Hawaii. Currently close to 100 species of Hawaiian plants are endangered. | ||
