Rainbow Trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss)

The beautifully marked rainbow trout is a Salmonid species, native to Pacific tributaries of North America and Asia, but introduced to waters around the world for sport fishing. This has caused problems in the past for native species and habitats, but an awareness of issues around species introduction can improve the health of ecosystems. It is a lovely non-native resident of the Test Valley, popular particularly for fly-fishing.
