Brown Trout (Salmo trutta)

Watercolor and colored pencil

Native to Europe and Asia, the Brown Trout (Salmo trutta) can grow to over 15 pounds and can live to 20 + years. It is well loved in the fly-fishing mecca of the Test Valley in Southern England where visitors flock to enjoy the chalk river and surrounding countryside. Populations remain stable to due to local interest in conservation and policies of catch and release, though issues related to climate change, pollution and invasive species continue to affect these and other aquatic organisms.
