New Forest Pony

oil

New Forest ponies are a hardy breed which roam free in the enchanting New Forest, a 150 square mile National Park, located along the SW coast of Hampshire, UK. The area is a lovely combination of woodland, moors, gardens and villages and has been protected and managed for agriculture and wildlife since the time of William the Conqueror. It was created as a royal hunting ground and was used as such for centuries, though current focus is now on protecting the unique habitats provided by the area. These ponies can be found browsing in local parks, peeking through the Gorse of the moors (as this one was doing), or even resting by cottage doorsteps. They are owned by the region’s ‘commoners’, who are allowed to graze their stock in the open forest lands.
