Tokay gecko (Gekko gecko)

Watercolor and colored pencil

Native to south and southeast Asia, this nocturnal, tropical tree-dweller is considered a true gecko- a member of the gekko genus. It is a powerful creature relative to its body size and can balance its full weight on one padded toe. Its ears are small holes in the head and if you look closely you can see straight through! It also has a third eye on the top of its head which doesn’t actually see objects, but is sensitive to light, so may help with its movements. The Tokay Gecko is the largest of the geckos alive today.
