Yellowtail Snapper (Ocyurus chrysurus)
Watercolor and colored pencil
Yellowtail snapper are common in many Atlantic coastal waters, usually near reefs, where they can be easily spotted by snorkelers and divers. This beautifully marked fish can be found from the Florida Keys to as far north as Massachusetts. It is a good seafood species due to its distance from shore, relative abundance and prized flavor and texture, though there should always be an awareness of fishing techniques which may affect habitat or cause species loss from by-catch. For more about this species, visit the Florida Museum>>
