Polka Dot Jewel Weevil

Many Pachyrhynchus weevils are flightless and island-based, with narrow ranges that make them especially vulnerable to habitat loss. Their bright markings may act as warning colors, while their shimmering colors are created by microscopic structures that manipulate light — an adaptation that has even inspired biomimicry research into new materials and optical technologies.
