The statuesque Pinus strobus is native to eastern North America where in mixed forests it can grow to majestic heights, at times reaching far above its deciduous neighbors. The Native American Iroquois tribe has denoted white pine the “Tree of Peace”, relating to a story of the creation of the Five Nations Confederacy by the Peace Giver, Dekanawida. As the roots of the great White Pine symbolize the reach toward peace, its characteristic five long leaves represented the five nations of Mohawks, Oneidas, Onondagas, Cayugas, and Senecas.
