Chimp and Figs

I was enchanted by this sweet fellow when visiting Monkey World in Dorset recently. It is a fantastic rescue centre & sanctuary for monkeys and apes, with several thriving groups of chimps, orang-utans, wooly monkeys and many more. Individuals have been rescued from a host of dire situations from around the world and now have found a place in Southern England where they socialise and help to raise awareness about important conservation issues affecting their species.
Figs and fig leaves would be part of a diverse diet in their wild African habitat.

"This is Semach - a male chimpanzee (Pan troglodytes) who was smuggled into Israel for the illegal pet trade.  He arrived at the park on 28/08/96 and we estimate he was born during 1994.  He was confiscated by Israeli Authorities from the home of a drug addict.  Semach has enormous ears, loves clowning around, and plays with all the others." From Monkey World website. Visit this wonderful place in person or online to learn more and adopt a primate!
